    Topic: FLSA and FMLA Update

Our Speaker:  Susan Lang, Wage and Hour Division of the US Department of Labor. Susan has worked for Wage and Hour as an investigator since 1985. She is a Wichita State University graduate and has lived in KS all her life. During non-COVID times, her job takes her all over the state of KS conducting investigations as well as providing outreach events.

The Program: The Wage and Hour Division of the US Department of Labor is responsible for enforcement of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) (minimum wage, overtime, child labor and recordkeeping) as well as the Family and Medical Leave Act. FLSA topics to be discussed include proper payment of overtime, salary exemptions from overtime, what constitutes “hours worked” that must be recorded and paid, and more.  FMLA topics to be discussed include employee eligibility, intermittent leave versus leave in a block of time, and reinstatement rights.

Time and Location: Virtual meetings are from noon to 1 p.m. The location is virtual and the Zoom link to join the meeting will be sent via email approximately 24 hours before the meeting.
